In order to be featured on Top10, dishwasher models must comply with EU Energy labelling regulation No 1059/2010 as well as with the following Top10 criteria: 

  • Have an Energy Efficiency Index rating of EEI < 50  (corresponding to the A+++ rating)
  • Have a drying efficiency rating of A
  • Have a maximum water consumption of 10L per cycle

Average performing model selection

The average performing model represents the following:

  • The most common load capacity on the market, in standard place settings
  • The mid-point bracket of the market comprising models of the same Energy Label class and EEI in the most common load capacity
  • The model representing the price average for all models within the mid-point bracket 

Glossary

Annual energy consumption: the energy consumption according to the EU energy label, based on 280 standard cycles, in kWh.

Annual running cost: the annual running cost in electricity for the product based on an electricity cost of 14.5p/kWh. 

Average retail price: the average market price of the product determined by checking prices for the specific model advertised by at least three major retail websites. 

Capacity: the maximum load capacity of the dishwasher, in standard place settings according to standard EN 50242: Electric dishwashers for household use. 

Construction: free-standing or built-in (integrated). 

Dimensions: the unpacked dimensions of the product in mm. 

Energy consumption per cycle: energy consumption per cycle in kWh according to suppliers’ declarations for the standard programme. 

Energy Efficiency Index: the basis for the determination of the energy efficiency class. The lower the value, the more efficient is the dishwasher. The energy label class corresponds to the EEI according to the table below.

EEI ≥ 90

Energy label: the energy efficiency class according to the EU energy label. The classes range from A+++ (most efficient) to D (least efficient). 

Energy Saving Trust Recommended: whether or not the product is an Energy Saving Trust Recommended product. 

Hot water supply: whether the machine has the capability to be connected to a hot water supply (usually to a maximum temperature of 60°C). This can result in a net energy saving where the water supply is not heated electrically. 

Water consumption per cycle: the water consumption of the standard cycle according to suppliers’ declarations, in litres. 

Drying efficiency class: the drying efficiency class according to the EU energy label. The classes range from A (most efficient) to G (least efficient). 

Noise level (dB): the noise emissions during the standard cycle in decibels (dB), according to the EU energy label.
